A great day for RROKI

August 9th, 2010 RROKI Executive Director Eileen Wicker, Louisville Metro Councilman (District 11) Kevin Kramer, and Metro Parks Director Mike Heitz made public an agreement between Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government and RROKI. RROKI will expand its facility onto a 4.25 acre adjacent tract of land recently purchased by Metro Parks. The lot is partially wooded, with over half the land having been illegally cut nearly a decade ago. Metro parks crews recently cleared that portion which was overgrown from lack of maintenance by the previous owner.

Now that we’ve done the ceremony, the real work begins. RROKI will need continued community support to prepare the grounds and build out a new clinic, bigger and better flight cages, and an education center. Plus there’s the boring but important stuff like building fences, installing utilities, and providing security for the birds. When you come to RROKI for a visit you’ll need a place to park your car and want to stroll on accessible pathways. We know that individuals, organizations, and companies in Kentucky are just as supportive of RROKI as Metro Parks and LG&E, who has also just committed to a partnership to support RROKI’s mission of protecting birds of prey.

The new property

  • Do you know an Eagle Scout who needs a Community Service Project?
  • Does your Club or Organization do community service work?
  • Does your Trade Organization or Union help out on Community Projects?
  • Maybe you’d like to memorialize a loved one by donating for a particular project
  • Are you a person who loves wildlife, but only have your time to donate?

RROKI will have numerous opportunities for you to make your mark on our new center. From naming our Education Center to having your name on a brick or bench in front of the display cage or your favorite bird of prey, it will take all levels of support.
